For over 100 years Burritt Bros. Carpets has provided Vancouver with the finest floor covering. It all began shortly after a young Ed Burritt wrote in his diary, "Left the employment of (the Hudson's Bay Company) to start in business for myself. April 27th, 1907." With that, Ed Burritt began an enterprise that would involve five generations of the Burritt family.
Originally, Burritt Bros. Carpets specialized in wool rugs from Asia and wool carpet from around the world. Traditional hand sewing was a specialty of the firm, and the motto on early business cards read "Thoroughly Practical Experts." During the First World War, Burritt Bros. Carpets installers laid linoleum in troop ships built in Vancouver. From 1927 to 1934, Ed Burritt's three sons each tried their hand in the business. Two sons, Charlie Burritt and his brother Edmund Burritt, choose to make it their life's work. The Second World War again saw Burritt Bros. Carpets installing linoleum on troop ships built in Vancouver.
Over the years Burritt Bros. Carpets has risen to the occasion in a wide variety of ways; from answering the call of duty in wartime, to carpeting many historic Vancouver buildings, including Hotel Vancouver (both the original and present properties), Hotel Georgia, the Orpheum Theatre and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. All of that experience and more is now consolidated into our flagship Vancouver showroom, located on Main Street just south of downtown.
The early motto, "Thoroughly Practical Experts" is a tradition that continues today. Now led by Charlie Burritt's son Harvey Burritt, Burritt Bros. Carpets continues to provide the finest residential flooring in a new century. We have joined with Beatty Floors, British Columbia's premier commercial flooring company (since 1929), and BC Hardwood Floors (since 1904), to combine our experience and resources and establish what is one of the best partnerships in the flooring industry.
